Those attending wakes in New Jersey may one day be able to express their condolences over coffee and cookies, soda and sandwiches. New Jersey is among a small handful of states that forbid food and beverage in funeral homes. The prohibition, on the books for 50-plus years, was rooted in the public-health belief that food and human remains don’t belong under the same roof.
